Western Baptist Hosts Colon Cancer Awareness Luncheon

altPADUCAH, KY – With March being National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Western Baptist Hospital has announced they will host a free colon cancer awareness luncheon. The luncheon will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 29, in the Baptist Heart Center auditorium.

Western Baptist gastroenterologist Russell Carter, M.D., will review risk factors and symptoms of the disease, as well as the importance of screening. The American Cancer Society recommends people 50 and older to be screened with colonoscopy.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the nation. The mortality rate in Kentucky is among the highest, killing nearly 900 people each year. Nine out of 10 colon cancers may be prevented or cured if detected early.

Free boxed lunches will be provided, and a balloon release will follow. Reservations are required and may be obtained by phoning (270) 575-2895.
